Dear Members,

I hope you are all well and keeping busy.
Many of you have asked how the UNWG is going to proceed in these unprecedented times.  I promise you,  we will adjust and continue to do our very important work as we have for more than 50 years.
The Board has been “meeting” via Zoom to discuss how we are going to proceed within the guidelines.  We are committed and very optimistic about keeping the guild viable and healthy.  We were very cautious right from the very beginning, cancelling the March 12 General Meeting even before the VIC closed.
In our Board meetings, we have been discussing the Bazaar, CRC funding, and the other activities in the guild.  I have been so impressed with the ingenuity of the various groups using Zoom or Skype or WhatsApp to continue to connect with their classes or groups.
This past week, you received a special notice email about the CRC projects.  The CRC committee selected and presented their choices of projects to fund. The Board reviewed these projects and approved them to be sent on to the Members for review. (Please Click »here for a copy of the project proposals, including a list of the CRC members. Password is needed as for UNWG Newsletter). Please read the special email and send your questions to Cathy Kieffer, 2nd Vice President.   You should also be receiving a summer newsletter in a few weeks.  This will contain more information about how we are going to proceed.
We are also looking for members who would like to be on the nominating committee to select board members for the year 2021.  If you are interested, please let me know.
At this time, I don’t have information on when we may enter the building.  As soon as I know I will pass it on to you.
The Board is going to meet again the first week in June and we will discuss possibly setting up a Zoom to hold a General Meeting or some other options.
In the meantime, please be careful and stay safe. We would love to hear from you.

Dear UNWG Members,

The charity committee has been working since January to evaluate the project proposals for this year. It has been a difficult procedure as everything was shut down in the middle of the evaluation and teams had to revert to communicating by emails and Zoom.  A total of 268 projects needed evaluation, of which 95 had insufficient documentation or did not fit our criteria.  We then evaluated in detail 173 projects from Africa (86), Asia (25), Middle East and Northern Africa (12),Europe (17), Austria (5) and CoAction(3).  The teams evaluated the projects, and then prioritized them by importance.  Each team referred the top five submissions to me for consideration.

An administrative team made up of team leaders rechecked the projects and together we developed a proposed funding list.  Because the Bazaar revenue did not match our hoped-for expectations this year we had very much less money to allocate than in previous years.  There also was a concern that funds had to be retained for covering escalating future Bazaar expenses. In light of these issues we only chose the top three projects of the teams’ lists for funding. The members of the Board have approved the selection, it is now to the members of UNWG to review the proposed list.  As outlined in the constitution a majority of the members need to approve the selection, and because it is impossible to meet in person at the VIC, we are sending the project list to each member.

Any questions can be submitted by email to the Second Vice President (unwgcharityvienna@gmail.com) before May 30.  It is deemed that those members not responding are in agreement with the selection and we will proceed with processing the approved applications.

  Bazaar 2020 - Saturday 28 November
With great enthusiasm, we have started to work on the organization of the next UNWG Bazaar 2020. As you well know, the Bazaar is the most important charity event for the UNWG. For those that have never participated, this is an amazing festival, to share cultures in the form of a market place where everyone can experience the sensation to help the children of entire the world. We invite you, your families and friends to join us in this wonderful event on Saturday, 28 November to be held in the Austria Centre Vienna. For the general bazaar improvements, we need volunteers to coordinate different programs with new and bright ideas on marketing, publicity and shows to be organized. Volunteers are also needed to obtain (asking companies, businesspersons and establishments) donations as tombola prizes or cash donations and help organize a Restaurant Stall or National Goods Stall. We look forward to joining hands with you and working shoulder to shoulder, for children in need of help everywhere. A successful Bazaar will contribute to obtain more resources to help all children in the world for a happier childhood, helping their needs and a better quality of life. Alone we do so little, all together we can do so much!
